Subash Khakurel: former Nepal international, cricket coach in Adelaide

Subash Khakurel (born 22 June 1987) is a Nepali cricketer who opened the batting and kept wicket for Nepal in 13 One Day and Twenty20 Internationals between 2014 and 2022. He retired in December 2024, was assistant batting coach of Lumbini Lions when they won the 2025 Nepal Premier League, and now runs cricket coaching in Adelaide, South Australia.

    NPL title as a coach

    As assistant batting coach, helped Lumbini Lions win their first Nepal Premier League title, beating Sudurpaschim Royals by six wickets in the 13 December final.

  2. 2024

    Retirement

    Retired from all cricket on 5 December, closing more than ten years in Nepal colours.

  3. 2022

    Last international match

    Played his final ODI, against Oman, on 9 June.

    Earned his Nepal ODI cap against the Netherlands on 3 August.

    Finished as the top scorer of the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier with 234 runs.

    A century against the USA

    Made 115 off 142 balls in ICC World Cricket League Division Four, becoming the fourth Nepali to reach an international hundred.

From Nepal's national side to coaching in Adelaide

His links with Australian cricket go back to 2015, when Cricket Country reported he would play in the Victorian Premier League. After ten years in Nepal colours and a title-winning season on the Lumbini Lions coaching staff, he now coaches players of all ages in Adelaide.

He came back from dengue and a hand fracture that kept him out for more than a year, and he coaches that resilience alongside technique. In his own words: "Whenever a situation is tough, I try to make myself tough."
